Pre-Care and Aftercare Recommendations

Pre-care and aftercare recommendations for all treatments is available on this page. Please read the section that is appropriate to you.

Please fast 2 hours in advance of treatment. Colonic Hydrotherapy is a non medical complementary treatment which may be beneficial to improve wellbeing. However, results, improvements, or any other possible benefits are not guaranteed. Please avoid gym or alcohol for 24 hours post treatment.At Dublin Vitality Centre, we use the advanced Harley Street Method for optimal privacy and
comfort.

  • Bring a juice with you
  • No gym or alcohol post treatment for 24 hours
  • No fizzy drinks post treatment
  • Whilst most people feel lighter and less bloated, such outcomes may take a full course of treament. 
  • Cramping may occur in some cases after treatment as well as gastrointestinal upset vomiting and ibs symptoms. This is to be expected. Take a Buscapan. 
  • Bloating may occur in some cases.  

Contra-indications for Colonic Hydrotherapy

  • Hernia including hiatus( abdominal hernia, hiatus, esophagial hernia) abdominal, rectal or colon surgery in the past 6 months including pregnancy
  • abdominal distension
  • liver failure
  • aneurysm
  • colon cancer or other cancer
  • *unmedicated cardiac condition
  • crohns disease
  • colitis
  • diverticulitis (if active)
  • fissures or fistula
  • bleeding of the rectum
  • intestinal performation
  • lupus
  • pregnant currently
  • kidney failure
  • Bleeding hemorroids

2. Skin Treatment Pre-Care and AfterCare

By booking any treatment, you agree that you have none of the contra-indications listed, have received pre-care and aftercare, and checked with your medical adviser.

Precare for Skin Treatments

To prepare your skin and ensure optimal results:

  • Avoid retinol, acids (AHAs/BHAs), and active skincare for 3–5 days prior
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning for 5–7 days before treatment
  • Do not undergo waxing, laser, or resurfacing treatments on the area for 7 days prior
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment
  • Arrive with clean skin where possible (no makeup)
  • Ensure the skin is not inflamed, irritated, or experiencing an active breakout
  •  

Aftercare

We offer advanced treatments, and proper aftercare is essential for healing and results and to avoid unwanted reactions:

  • Use recommended aftercare products only, as prescribed by your therapist
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily—this is essential to protect the skin and prevent pigmentation
  • Avoid makeup for 24–48 hours post-treatment
  • Avoid botox, chemical peel, laser, IPL, fillers or similar  for 14 days in advance and after
  • Keep skincare minimal—avoid all active ingredients (retinol, acids, exfoliants) for 5–7 days
  • Cleanse gently using a non-abrasive method—do not rub or exfoliate
  • Avoid heat (sauna, steam, hot showers) and exercise for 48 hours
  • Do not pick, scratch, or interfere with the skin during healing
  • Mild redness, sensitivity, and light flaking may occur for a few days
  • Stay well hydrated to support skin repair
  • Place a clean cloth soaked in cold water onto the skin to sooth as part of the recommended aftercare to cool inflamed, hot, or swollen skin. 
  • Do not drink alcohol, smoke, use tanning beds, or be in direct unprotected sunlight for 7 days. 
  •  

What to Expect after Skin Treatments

  • Skin may appear red and feel warm immediately after treatment. This is to be expected.
  • Visible improvements in texture and firmness develop over time, up to 3 weeks
  • Collagen stimulation continues for several weeks and recommended products should be used.
  • Where undergoing diathermy, expect redness and scabbing for up to 14 days. 
  • Where undergoing needling, expect redness and swelling, as well as red marks for 14 days.
  • Best results are achieved as part of a course of treatments. One treatment is not enough in most cases. 
  • Reactions to any treatment can occur. Seek medical advice. 
 
 
 

3. BioScan Testing / Food Sensitivity Testing

BioScan testing may be used to identify suspected food intolerances for those who wish to trial eliminate certain items to help overcome symptoms such as bloating, constipation, IBS, skin issues, mood issues and related gut and skin issues which may or may not be the result of foods. The test is not a diagnosis and should not be relied upon as such. Trial elimination of foods should be undertaken for no more than three months. Supplement where necessary as recommended. Always seek advice from a medical physician before undergoing lifestyle or dietary changes including following results indicated by the BioScan test. 

Pre-Care Instructions

  • Hydrate properly in advance of the test
  • Do not undergoing the after gym or where the body is fatigued
  • Avoid steroids and anti-histamines as these may block the result
  • Avoid the text after x-ray, flying.  Body must be rested and balanced
  • Not suitable for those with epilespy or heart rate monitor

4.Pressotherapy, Infra Red Light Therapy and V-Mat BioAmethyst

These therapies are designed to support circulation, relaxation, and overall wellbeing.  These therapies may not be suitable for everyone. Do not book these treatment if any of the following applies to you: 

  • Overheating sensitivity or intolerance to heat
  • Cardiovascular conditions or use of a pacemaker/monitoring device
  • Epilepsy
  • Recent surgery or risk of heart attack
  • Pregnancy (or having given birth in the past 6 months)

To ensure a safe and effective experience, please follow the guidelines below

 

Before Your Session

  • Arrive well hydrated—this supports circulation and detoxification
  • No alcohol in advance of treatment.
  • Eat a light meal 1–2 hours beforehand (do not attend on a completely empty stomach)
  • Avoid alcohol prior to your session
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
  • Inform your therapist of any medical conditions, medications, or recent procedures
  • Remove jewellery or metal objects where applicable and place in your bag or zipped pocket.

 

During Your Session

  • Relax and allow your body to respond naturally to the treatment
  • You may feel gentle pressure (pressotherapy) or a gradual warming sensation (infrared/BioMat)
  • If at any point you feel too warm, uncomfortable, or lightheaded,  it is your duty to inform your therapist immediately
  •  Individual responses may vary.
  •  

Risks 

There are inherent risks associated with all therapies.

  • These may include, but are not limited to: dizziness or lightheadedness, fainting, headaches, muscle aches or temporary discomfort, fatigue or lethargy, nausea, temporary skin reactions (including rashes), changes in blood pressure or circulation, increased urination or dehydration, skin sensitivity, redness or heat-related discomfort, overheating or intolerance to heat, and temporary visual disturbances such as light sensitivity or blurred vision.  By undergoing the treatment you accept such risks. 

 

After Your Session

  • Continue to drink plenty of water to support the body’s natural processes
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Eat light, nourishing foods
  • Rest and allow your body to integrate the treatment
  • Gentle movement (e.g. walking) is beneficial
  • You may notice:
    • Increased urination
    • A feeling of warmth or relaxation
    • Reduced bloating or fluid retention

 

Recommended Frequency

  • For general wellbeing: 1–2 sessions per week
  • For targeted results (e.g. bloating, circulation, recovery): follow your therapist’s guidance
  • BioMat home use is typically recommended for up to 40 minutes daily, depending on tolerance
